Interpolate Takes Ruthless S. For Klaravich

Interpolate | Coglianese

Interpolate continued sire Into Mischief's wonderful weekend of wins, as the $300,000 FTSAUG purchase ran on nicely down the Aqueduct stretch to notch her first black-type victory for the red-lettered 'KS' of Klaravich.

After a debut fourth behind Chocolate Gelato (Practical Joke) by 12 1/4-lengths Aug. 14 at The Spa, the bay filly broke her maiden Oct. 14 during the BAQ meet when she edged away from Royal Poppy (Classic Empire). Trainer Chad Brown then shipped her to Pennsylvania for the Parx Futurity Jan. 3, a race over a sloppy track in which she steadied at the start and could not recover in time to catch Girl Trouble (Fast Anna).

Looking for redemption in this stakes spot, the 9-2 shot tracked her former rivals down the backstretch from the second flight, as she ran alongside stablemate Senior Prank (Into Mischief). Rounding the far turn, the bay filly took the overland route, which positioned her in three path at the top of the lane, and under confident handling, she cleared past the eighth pole to win by 2 1/2-lengths over Girl Trouble.

“I wanted to give her [Interpolate] a chance,” said Brown after the race. “She didn't break well at Parx and then she was rushed into the race. It just unfolded pretty bad and you add in a sealed track into that, I put a line through it. I love how Eric [Cancel] filled in here [for the injured Kendrick Carmouche] and got her out of the gate but didn't rush her and let her find her stride.”

The winner's dam is a half to Shumoos (Distorted Humor), who was second in listed Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint, and her MGISW third dam produced GSW Cat Fighter (Storm Cat). Interpolate has a full-sister named Midway Mischief, and a 2-year-old half-brother by American Pharoah. Her dam also foaled a yearling colt by Tiz the Law and was bred back to him last year.
